lyrics

She held it and smelled it while reading his letters
It wouldn’t bring Albert back, but it made her feel better
Was she the only one?
Was she the only one?
Was she the only one? Was she the only one?
His letters came less frequently
But their mingling smells put her mind at ease
“I don’t give a damn
At least I haven’t gotten that telegram”
Home on leave, he finds his unwashed shirt
“Why’s it like that?” But before her words
“Yer tryna make me mad
You’ve been lending out my shirt to another man”
Was she the only one?
Was it all her fault?
Was she the only one not to wash her husband's shirt?
Was she the only one?
Was she the only one?
Was she the only one? Was she the only one?
“I’ve washed your shirt, will you wear it for me?”
It takes some time, but eventually
He wears it on a date
Rowing and sweating out on the lake
But he’d rather go back, it was plain to see
And he did another tour in just a couple of weeks
There was that shirt again
Smelling like the sweat of another man
The same wrinkles and creases, but the magic was gone
After a while she lit it, and watched as it burned
She didn’t know the man
A couple days later came that telegram
Was she the only one?
Was she the only one?
Was she the only one not to wash her husband's shirt?
Was she the only one?
Was it all her fault?
Was she the only one? Was she the only one?
